Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago seek to defend their Caribbean Volleyball
Senior Championships
PARAMARIBO, Suriname, July 20, 2023 – Defending champion Suriname is in
group A for men with Barbados and Martinique, while group B is formed by
the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Curaçao. The 18th
Caribbean volleyball championships for men and women will be held in
Suriname from 21 to 31 July. The preparations for the tournament are now
in an advanced stage. Both the men's and women's categories will start
on Sunday in the Anthony Nesty Sports Hall.
Among the women, Suriname, the Bahamas and Jamaica are part of group A
and in group B are the defending champion Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados
and Haiti. The official part starts at six o'clock in the evening, while
the Surinamese women kick off against the Bahamas at half past six and
the men face Barbados two hours later.
Suriname their historic men's title came in 2018 beating the Bahama’s in
a four-setter (25-20, 13-25, 25-22, 25-23) in the Ismay van Wilgen
Sports Hall.
Trinidad and Tobago women beat Suriname that year in straight sets
(21-25, 20-25, 22-25).
The Caribbean Cup serves as preparation for the Pan-Am Cup for both men
and women. The women will compete in Puerto Rico August 4-14 and the men
August 13-21 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The participating countries will be accommodated in the Royal Breezes,
Residence Inn, Golden Truly and Eco Resort hotels. The training
locations are the ANS, Ismay van Wilgen Sporthal and the Mgr. Aloysius
Zichem Sports Center (NGVB). |
